Protective Cases & Sleeves for Daily Scratches

Shield your crypto storage from daily wear and unexpected damage

Most Ledger hardware wallets like the Nano S or Nano X have a slim, sleek design prone to scratches when stuffed in pockets or bags with keys, coins, or other sharp items. A good protective case or sleeve is the first line of defense here. I learned this the hard way last year when a friend brought his Nano S to a weekend music festival, tossing it in his jeans pocket alongside a set of car keys—by the end of the trip, the device’s edge had a noticeable scratch that made him nervous about its long-term durability. Switching to a soft, form-fitting silicone sleeve from a trusted third-party brand fixed that. Sleeves made of food-grade silicone are flexible enough to slip on easily but thick enough to catch small impacts and scratches. For longer travels, a hard-shell case with a foam interior is even better; I use a Case-Mate hard case for my Nano X when flying, and it’s survived being tossed in overhead bins next to heavy laptops without a single mark on my device.

Shock-Absorbent Mounting Solutions for Impacts

Even small drops or bumps can damage a Ledger’s internal components, especially the screen or connection ports. That’s where shock-absorbent mounting accessories come in. If you like carrying your Ledger on your keychain, skip flimsy plastic clips and opt for a metal keyring with silicone padding. I used a basic metal keyring for my Nano S for months until I was jostled on a crowded subway and the device slipped off, landing on concrete—luckily only a tiny dent, but a close call. After that, I switched to a keyring attachment with a silicone shock absorber between the metal clip and Ledger’s body. The silicone absorbs force from bumps or drops, and the metal clip stays secured even when tugged. For desk use, a small shock-absorbent stand is smart too; a colleague had his Nano X knocked over by a coffee mug last year, but since using a stand with rubber feet, it’s stayed stable even when his desk gets busy.

Water-Resistant Covers for Spills and Moisture

Moisture is a quiet threat to electronic devices, and Ledger wallets aren’t exempt—spills from coffee, soda, or rain can seep into ports and cause short circuits. Water-resistant covers made of TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) are affordable and highly effective. My mom, not into crypto herself, borrowed my old Nano S once while cooking to check a related recipe and spilled a few drops of water on it. Luckily, I’d put a TPU cover on a week prior— I just wiped the cover dry and the Nano S worked perfectly afterward. These covers are thin enough not to interfere with touchscreen or button operations, but create a tight liquid barrier. I also keep one for camping; last summer, when it rained unexpectedly, my Nano X stayed safe inside even as other gear got wet.

Cable Management & Port Protection

Ledger’s data cables are often overlooked but critical to protect. Frayed cables or loose port connections can cause data transfer errors or damage internal ports. The original cable for my Nano S frayed at the connector after a year of frequent use, so I replaced it with a braided nylon cable with reinforced port ends. These reinforced ends prevent sharp bends that cause fraying, a common issue with standard cables. I also use small silicone port covers when the cable isn’t plugged in—they keep dust and debris out of USB-C or micro-USB ports, which can cause connection issues over time. A friend skipped these covers and got dust in his Nano X’s port, making it impossible to connect to his laptop for weeks; after cleaning with compressed air and using covers again, the problem never returned.
