Step-by-step fixes for balance mismatches in Ledger Live
Refresh Ledger Live and Update to the Latest Version

One of the quickest and most effective fixes is manual account refresh and app updates. I once encountered this when adding a new ERC-20 token to my Ledger Nano S, but the balance stayed at zero even after a few minutes. I opened Ledger Live, navigated to the affected token account, clicked the three-dot menu in the top-right, and selected “Refresh account” — this forced the app to pull real-time blockchain data instead of relying on old cached info. If refreshing doesn’t work, check for updates: go to Settings > About > Check for updates. My friend had a similar Ethereum balance mismatch (15% lower than actual) because his Ledger Live was on an outdated version with node connectivity bugs; updating fixed it immediately. Always run the latest version to avoid known sync errors.
Switch to a Reliable Blockchain Node to Resolve Sync Errors
Ledger Live uses multiple blockchain nodes to fetch balance data, and a faulty default node can cause mismatches. Last month, my Solana balance showed half its actual value because the default Solana node was offline. To fix this, enable developer mode (click “About Ledger Live” 5 times), go to Settings > Developer options > Node list, then pick a trusted provider like Infura or Alchemy instead of the default. Switching from the default to an Infura node updated my balance in 10 seconds. Also, check your internet stability — weak connections cause partial syncs. Avoid public VPNs that might block blockchain node access, as this disrupts data retrieval.
Resync Your Account From the Ledger Hardware Device
For hardware wallet users, wrong account linking often leads to balance issues. My cousin’s Bitcoin was missing 0.3 BTC because he added the account with the wrong derivation path (legacy instead of segwit). To fix this, connect your Ledger, unlock it, open Ledger Live, go to the affected account, click the three-dot menu, and select “Remove account”. Add it back manually: click “Add account”, choose your Ledger device, pick the cryptocurrency, and select the correct derivation path (found in Ledger’s official docs or device settings). Also, update your Ledger firmware — outdated firmware causes sync conflicts between the hardware and app. Wrong derivation paths fetch data from a different wallet address, so this step is critical for accurate balance display.
Clear Local Cache or Reinstall Ledger Live as a Last Resort
Corrupted local cache is the final common culprit. I had this with my Cardano balance, which stayed at zero despite multiple refreshes and node switches. To clear cache, close Ledger Live completely: on Windows, delete the “Cache” folder in %appdata%\Ledger Live; on Mac, delete it from ~/Library/Application Support/Ledger Live. Restart the app to rebuild the cache with fresh data. If that fails, uninstall and reinstall Ledger Live from the official site — never lose your 24-word recovery phrase, as it’s the only way to restore funds. This worked for my Cardano balance; after reinstalling, sync completed in a minute and the correct balance appeared. This is safe because it only removes local app data, not your actual funds stored on the blockchain.
